IFL 2017 Post NFL Draft Rookie Mock – NFC Rounds One and Two

NFC Conference

Round 1

1.01 Chicago Bears – Nic

Corey Davis – Tennessee Titans

Mock draft pick: Leonard Fournette

With Forte, Howard and Miller in the backfield I sense a change in direction from the Bears. Keenan Allen and Randall Cobb have not been the poster boys for consistency so another wide receiver could be the choice here.

1.02 Los Angeles Rams – Andrew

Leonard Fournette – Jacksonville Jaguars

Mock draft pick: Corey Davis

Andrew will be very happy about this pick at the second overall. He may even try and get a last minute trade in if Fournette falls to here. The Jaguars newest running back could be a useful player in his rookie season.

1.03 Los Angeles Rams – Andrew

Christian McCaffrey – Carolina Panthers

Mock draft pick: Dalvin Cook

Andrew opts for the safe pick in McCaffrey. He should be an impactful PPR back for years to come in the Carolina offence. Adding Fournette and McCaffrey to Isaiah Crowell and Tevin Coleman creates a solid backfield for the Rams.

1.04 Detroit Lions – Russell

Joe Mixon – Cincinnati Bengals

Mock draft pick: Mike Williams

The IFL rookie gets set for his first rookie draft with a controversial first pick. Joe Mixon will be off some IFL GMs boards based on his off field incidents. However, the NFC rookie throws caution to the wind and picks up only his third running back on the roster.

1.05 Atlanta Falcons – Floyd

Mike Williams – Los Angeles Chargers

Mock draft pick: Christian McCaffrey

Atlanta’s receiving core is pretty poor and I’m sure it’s high on Floyd’s to do list for the off season. The first piece in that puzzle will be the NFL Chargers first round pick and former Clemson wide receiver, Mike Williams.

1.06 Minnesota Vikings – Wade

Dalvin Cook – Minnesota Vikings

Mock draft pick: Joe Mixon

I feel a homer pick coming on! John Ross and Dalvin Cook are both in play here as they could be useful on his offence. I think Wade proves he is in fact a Viking’s fan with the homer pick of Cook.

1.07 Detroit Lions – Russell

John Ross – Cincinnati Bengals

Mock draft pick: Alvin Kamara

Linebacker will wait a couple of picks for Russell as he picks up the other NFL top ten receiver in John Ross. The speedster should get opportunities playing with AJ Green and Russell will hope he can continue from where he left off for the Huskies.

1.08 Minnesota Vikings – Wade

OJ Howard – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mock draft pick: John Ross

The Vikings offence is a collection of characters who have all seen their stock take a hit after free agency and the draft (see Latavius Murray, Thomas Rawls, Brandon Marshall and DeAndre Washington). Howard would be a nice addition and be his first tight end on the roster.

1.09 Detroit Lions – Russell

Alvin Kamara – New Orleans Saints

Mock draft pick: Reuben Foster

Russell keeps working on his backfield with Kamara who could be a PPR dynamo in the New Orleans offence. This could be a productive move for the rookie GM and with a view to the future he’ll be interested to see how Kamara’s role evolves.

1.10 Arizona Cardinals – Jai

Samaje Perine – Washington Redskins

Mock draft pick: O.J. Howard, TE

Jai needs running backs and defensive ends. Myles Garrett is definitely a possibility here but any good roster needs some running backs. Samaje Perine fell in the draft but he landed in a very nice spot. Hunt is also in the mix but I think Jai likes a big back.

1.11 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

Myles Garrett – Cleveland Browns

Mock draft pick: D’onta Foreman

Luke will be waiting, praying, hoping for Myles Garrett to fall to him at the 11th spot. With so many GMs in the top ten needing offence I think Garrett could very likely fall to Tampa. Expect Zeke Ansah to go straight onto the trade block after this pick.

1.12 Green Bay Packers – Barry

Kareem Hunt – Kansas City Chiefs

Mock draft pick: Juju Smith-Schuster

The NFC north is looking like it could be a very tough battle and the Packers will need to bring in some reinforcements. With just James White at the running back position GM Barry brings in the former Toledo back.

1.13 Detroit Lions – Russell

Jarrad Davis – Detroit Lions

Mock draft pick: Samaje Perine

The Foster vs Davis debate I’m sure will be in many IDP leagues but as it stands I think Davis is the safer pick pick. Davis already has the MLB job in Detroit and if he can stay fit should be a nice consistent linebacker.

1.14 New York Giants – Djordan

Reuben Foster – San Francisco 49ers

Mock draft pick: Chris Godwin

Back to back linebackers come off the board here with Foster going at the 1.14. Foster is the most talented linebacker in this class by a considerable way. He is also the most unpredictable but DJordan takes the plunge here.

1.15 Green Bay Packers – Barry

Haason Reddick – Arizona Cardinals

Mock draft pick: Evan Engram

The linebacker run keeps going with the Packers drafting Reddick. After taking offence with his first pick Barry brings in the new Cardinals first rounder. Reddick will complete a nice quartet with Bruce Irvin, Telvin Smith and Jordan Hicks.

1.16 New Orleans Saints – Carlos

Evan Engram – New York Giants

Mock draft pick: David Njoku

I still see Carlos going with a tight end here but this time it’s the Giants’ first round rookie pick. With Cameron Brate’s value taking a significant hit, Carlos may look to replace him with the tight end that potentially has the best hands in the class.

2.01 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

D’Onta Foreman – Houston Texans

Mock draft pick: Myles Garrett

I had Foreman going to Luke in the post Combine article and here he gets the former Texas A&M back but a few picks later. The Houston Texans landing spot has hurt is value quite a bit but he may play a role by mid-season.

2.02 Chicago Bears – Nic

Marlon Mack – Indianapolis Colts

Mock draft pick: Jamal Adams

The running backs have jumped a few picks earlier on the NFC side due to Luke and Nic both looking to bolster that position. Mack had one of the best landing spots for a running back and should compete for snaps early.

2.03 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

David Njoku – Cleveland Browns

Mock draft pick: Zach Cunningham

With no glaring needs on his defence, Luke keeps building his offence with the final NFL first round tight end. Njoku is a project both as a talent and a landing spot. However, someone will have to step up with Pryor gone, Njoku could be that player.

2.04 Los Angeles Rams – Andrew

Zach Cunningham – Houston Texans

Mock draft pick: Haason Reddick

After using his early picks to reinforce his backfield, Andrew will now look to the other side of the ball. Both linebacker and defensive end are positions of need so Derek Barnett and Zach Cunningham are both in play. I think he goes with the linebacker.

2.05 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

Zay Jones – Buffalo Bills

Mock draft pick: Kareem Hunt

Luke’s run of picks in the second round continues. Zay Jones could have a significant role in his rookie year for the Bills with only Sammy Watkins challenging him for receptions.

2.06 Chicago Bears – Nic

Jamal Adams – New York Jets

Mock draft pick: Jarrad Davis

Bradley McDougald’s move to Seattle has really hit his IDP value and Nic will be looking to address this position. Thankfully for him the best safety on the board is there. Jamal Adams will be a top ten safety in his rookie season

2.07 Washington Redskins – Brian G.

Derek Barnett – Philadelphia Eagles

Mock draft pick: Soloman Thomas

The Washington D line has taken a recent hit in value with Aaron Donald moving to DE but there are no clear favourites to play opposite him. Thankfully for Washington, an NFL first round pass rusher, Derek Barnett is available in the mid second round.

2.08 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

JuJu Smith-Schuster – Pittsburgh Steelers

Mock draft pick: Jeremy McNichols

At this stage Luke is taking the best player available on offence as his defence is pretty secure. Juju Smith-Schuster will have to fight for a role in Pitt but he was a hugely productive receiver at USC.

2.09 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

Jeremy McNichols- Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mock draft pick: Jabrill Peppers

Another back that landed in a good opportunity is Jeremy McNichols. He was very productive for BYU and I know Luke will probably say he’ll take IDP here but I don’t see any glaring needs. Peppers maybe a pick here but it’s not a position of need.

2.10 Arizona Cardinals – Jai

Soloman Thomas – San Francisco 49ers

Mock draft pick: Derek Barnett

Jai opened up his draft with a running back and now he looks to another position of need. Defensive end for the Cardinals is so shallow there’s a drought. Thomas will help begin to fill that well.

2.11 Detroit Lions – Russell

Jabrill Peppers – Cleveland Browns

Mock draft pick: Malik Hooker

Safety is a definite position of need for the Lions so Russell will be pleased to see the new Browns strong safety sitting here at the 2.11. Peppers is definitely in a tier below Jamal Adams for me but he should be productive in his rookie season.

2.12 Green Bay Packers – Barry

Jamaal Williams – Green Bay Packers

Mock draft pick: Takkarist McKinley

This is a really tough pick and I looked at various options. Safety, DE, LB and offence are all in play here. However, I really like Williams landing spot and he’s the only natural run through the middle RB on the Packers roster.

2.13 Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Luke

Budda Baker – Arizona Cardinals

Mock draft pick: Jonathan Allen

This is where Luke says “finally!”. Budda Baker has a nice landing spot in Arizona and could be hugely productive for them. Especially with the Honey Badger’s injury history. This move gives Luke the flexibility to roll out three safeties in his line-up.

2.14 Arizona Cardinals – Jai

Curtis Samuel – Carolina Panthers

Mock draft pick: Budda Baker

Jai would have probably preferred the original pick of Baker but Curtis Samuel will still be a nice addition to his roster. Samuel was a second round pick and the Panthers clearly have a plan of how to use him and should help Jai’s flaying offence.

2.15 Seattle Seahawks – Will

Chris Godwin – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mock draft pick: Zay Jones

GM Will had one of the scariest backfields in the 2016 season. However, going into 2017 his receiving core is looking very shallow. Chris Godwin will have competition for targets in Tampa but has the talent to have some good weeks for Will.

2.16 Atlanta Falcons – Floyd

Joe Williams – San Francisco 49ers

Mock draft pick: Curtis Samuel

Eagle eyed GMs will notice I went with Wayne Gallman in the AFC mock. Williams falls here as the buzz around him in San Fran is growing under new new coach Kyle Shanahan. The Falcons desperately need some points on offence.
