This series of articles will follow a pretty simple format of Q&A’s with the end goal of getting your personalities and thoughts out there for the league!

Today, I sit down with two GMs from the NFC South: Luke (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Floyd (Atlanta Falcons).

1. What are your thoughts on league so far?

• “This league has started out fucking amazing! There are now by-laws, scoring rules, an established, transparent and intelligent front office, a media team which comprises of six shows, and a league website. I think the league is in pretty good shape after one month of existence. Has any league ever had this much stuff happening without anything actually happening? I haven’t seen one.” – Luke, TB
• “Super excited about this league! I think it will take all of my knowledge of football to be successful. Sadly I know very little and was hoping this was going to be a fantasy golf league.” – Floyd, ATL

2. What are your thoughts on your Division competition/opponents?

• “I’m pretty sure that my division is a bunch of schlubs. Is that even a word?” – Floyd, ATL
• “I have a lot of respect for Nils and Carlos. Both have been to the Super Bowl in the former league I was in, XFF. Both owners have proven they are quality GM’s that can build quality rosters very quickly. To have both of these guys in my division is going to be a lot of fun to play twice a year. I am very used to playing Carlos and look forward to establishing a rivalry with the always-trading Nils. These guys motivate me every day to acquire as much knowledge as I can and execute when the draft rolls around. I don’t know too much about Floyd, but I look forward to seeing what he can bring to the league and how he builds a roster. It is not going to be easy for him to be competitive in a division with three killers. He needs to prepare every single day to be able to catch up to the veteran owners’ knowledge base in his division.” – Luke, TB

3. Are you more concerned about your Division opponents or Conference opponents?

• “I am more concerned about beating myself.” – Floyd, ATL
• “I’m going to assemble the best roster and talent base that I can, and not be concerned about how my division opponents are doing. I will be watching my division opponents very closely to see how they build their rosters, but I need to do the best I can do, and not get too hung up on comparing our rosters, especially early on.” – Luke, TB

4. How are you preparing for the FA auction in March?

• “Every day, I check my favorite 5-6 fantasy football websites. I say I read about 10-12 articles a day. I constantly am checking my Rotoworld app throughout the day. I write down any players that interest me and I have different lists of players and how I feel about them. (Sleepers, must haves, don’t touch unless you get value etc.) I also am finishing up my rankings for each position. I have the defense done and am finishing up my RB+WR+TE position. I probably have around 250 players ranked currently, by position with short descriptions.” – Luke, TB

5. Have you developed a strategy for the auction yet or will you play it by ear?

• “My strategy is to click on players, bid an unspecified amount of money, win player, drink a beer to celebrate my victory, rinse and repeat. It’s going to be a long couple of weeks.” – Floyd, ATL
• “I have a good idea on who I want to target at each position and a strategy on how I want to build my roster, but I will be open to changing that to get the most talent on my team. If I see value on targeting someone who I didn’t originally intend on acquiring, I’ll bid on him. I don’t think anyone is off limits.” – Luke, TB

6. What position(s) on Offense do you believe will be the most critical? Why?

• “The player that is a role model for todays youth is so important.  The children are our future and I feel like a player that our kids can look up to will take a lot of pressure off of me and my bad parenting.” – Floyd, ATL
• “If you would have asked me a couple of weeks ago, I would have said wide receiver, but there is such balance on offense. Getting value and acquiring cheap talent, while at the same time having young studs under contract for years will be the most important. Whether that is a quarterback, tight end or whatever is irrelevant to me.” – Luke, TB

7. What position(s) on Defense do you believe will be the most critical? Why?

• “Same applies here as I stated on offense. But obviously cornerbacks and defensive tackles are not as valuable as other positions. They don’t score enough. You won’t see me bidding 4 million dollars on cornerbacks. Unless I get really REALLY high.” – Luke, TB

8. Prediction on the NFL Super Bowl?

• “Super Bowl?  I’m all about the puppy bowl!” – Floyd, ATL
• “Patriots 30 Cardinals 27 (Football Outsiders actually favor the Broncos to win the SB, which blows my mind as terrible Peyton Manning has been at QB… Do they know something?)” – Luke, TB

Even with only two GMs being available for this interview, it’s easy to see that the NFC South will be an interesting division! Floyd’s only competition is Floyd. Luke is concerned about Nils and Carlos. Who will dominate the NFC South? What does Nils and Carlos have to say? Only time will tell….
