New York Jets draft review

This is the last draft review in the AFC. Cory subscribed to the theory that if you throw enough shit on the board some of it will stick. Cory’s earliest pick was the 3.12. That being said, he had 9 picks overall. He went overwhelming offense with an emphasis on WRs. Most of his picks were not good. However, when you are drafting so low you only need to hit on one and he hit it big.

3.12 – Jalen Hurd – WR – 49ers.

Cory’s Comments: Unreal athlete here. This guy could end up at a variety of designations, but you can’t deny that he was a real threat as both a RB and WR in college. Going to be a fun one to watch.

Hurd was drafted in the 3rd round and he looked really good in camp. He got hurt and never played in 2019. 49ers left Sanders go so there is an opening opposite Deebo in the starting lineup. 49ers did not address it in free agency. The biggest threat to playing time will be if the 49ers draft one of the stud WRs. If they don’t Hurd could have a nice role in 2020. THIS PICK WAS INCOMPLETE.

3.13 – Riley Ridley – WR – Bears

Cory’s Comments: Best route runner in the class in my opinion. Large bodied WR that won’t be real flashy but could push to be a possession PPR machine.

The definition of a big body possession receiver: someone who isn’t very fast, can’t create seperation, and won’t be relevant in the IFL. The Bears never used Ridley who only caught one or two balls. He finished the year with 5 points. The Bears offense was not good and neither was Ridley. He should develop to see more opportunities, but he probably won’t be startable. THIS WAS NOT A GOOD PICK.

4.03 – Kelvin Harmon – WR – Redskins

Cory’s Comments: This was way to far for this guy to drop. Everyone worried about the 4.6 40 except me. Let’s look back in 2 years when he takes the #1 WR spot in Washington and highlight this comment.

See Above. Speed does matter. Harmon did not perform well and couldn’t create any seperation. He was also a victim of bad QB play. He finished with 80 points on the year. Harmon is another guy that will sit on Cory’s bench for his career because he offers very little upside even as the 3rd WR in Washington. Cory was hoping that Harmon would be what McLauren was, the #1 WR in Washington. THIS WAS NOT A GOOD PICK.

5.19 – Charles Omenihu – DE – Texans

Cory’s Comments: Pure athlete, NFL body, needs some skill work though. Will take a chance at a position that will cost dearly in FA. Liked his video but needs development time.

JJ Watt went down. Omenihu played almost every game and scored 70 points on the year. He finished with 3 sacks. With Watt back next year, Omenihu will probably be situational pass rusher, but with the 5.19 pick it isn’t bad to find a backup DE to Watt who can’t seem to stay healthy. THIS WAS NOT A BAD PICK.

6.01 – Preston Williams – WR – Dolphins

Cory’s Comments: Big receiver that should have been drafted imo. Chance to be a career #2 with some upside, especially in MIA.

What can I say, Cory nailed this pick. Williams started out great and then got hurt. He finished with 117 points and proved he could play. Cory proved to know his shit. Williams will be a nice asset for years especially if the Dolphins get a QB like Tua. THIS WAS AN AWESOME PICK.

6.02 – Darius Slayton – WR – Giants

Cory’s Comments: Speedster with marginal hands. They have to throw to someone in 2020 why not Slayton?

Two in a row. Cory is the man! To draft Williams and Slayton back to back in the 6th round. Those were probably the two best back to back low round picks in the 2019 IFL draft. Slayton scored 196 points and was very consistent. THIS WAS AN AWESOME PICK.

6.03 – Qadree Ollison – RB – Falcons

Cory’s Comments: Big fan of the big body to take over Freeman’s carries once he goes down.

Cory, who cares about these last picks. You already made your draft with Williams and Slayton. Ollison finshed the year with 48 points. Even when Freeman missed a little time, Ollison never worked out. On the positive side, he did get a few carries at the end of the year so the Falcons got a look at him. The Falcons brought in Gurley, so Ollison will have to hope to win the backup job. THIS WAS NOT A GOOD PICK.

6.05 – Jordan Scarlett – RB – Panthers

Cory’s Comments: One of my favorite runner’s in the draft. Bad hands but I think will carve out a 6-8 touch role behind Mac.

Biggest mistake here is that McCaffrey never comes off the field. Scarlett scored 7 points on the year. 5 of those points were special teams points. As long as McCaffrey is on the team, Scarlett doesn’t exist. THIS WAS NOT A GOOD PICK.

6.06 – Alex Barnes – RB – FA

Cory’s Comments: Landing spot is great but the more I watched the video the more I loved this guy’s patience, vision, and burst. UDFA so nothing is guaranteed, but I think he makes the roster and has a chance to contribute if there is an injury.

Barnes never made a roster. Not much else to say. THIS WAS A HORRIBLE PICK.

I loved Cory’s comments. He put his work into his draft research and it paid off. I was pretty impressed by his analysis even though all his picks didn’t turn out. He nailed the Williams and Slayton picks in the 6th round. Cory had a nice draft.
