Now that I am finished with all of the team draft reviews of the AFC, I am starting to look at individual rounds to see who did the best. I thought it would be fun to do the NFC first, since I neglected you all spring. In determining how to define “best”, I wanted to focus not just on highest points, because it is skewed toward RBs and QBs. I also didn’t want it to be obvious choices. For instance, Josh Jacobs was 1.01 in both conferences. He was the no brainer top pick. I tended to focus on the picks at the later part of the round as the salaries dropped. Here we go:
ROUND 1: I considered three possbilities with this round. Miles Sanders at the 1.03 was really good, but this was kind of a no-brainer pick also. Kyler Murray at 1.07 was high for a QB. He scored 417 points as a rookie which was surprising. In the end, I selected…
1.15 – AJ Brown – WR – Titans (Selected by Washington Dan)
Washington Dan’s Comments: 2 x 1200yd season back to back in college and strong route running put this kid as the #1 receiver in this draft… On talent.
Landing spot isn’t ideal with a conservative offense and less than steller QB but I could not pass up top 5 talent at the end of the 1st. All eyes on 2020 with this one. Dan nailed this pick with 1.15. Several owners took a pass on AJ Brown who finished with 216 points and became the WR1 in Tennessee. With Tannehil back, AJ Brown has chance to be perennial WR1 in this league for a long time. 200 points will be his floor moving forward. Probably looking at 250 points per season in the future. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK OF THE 1ST ROUND.
ROUND 2: For me this round came down to two people. The runner up was Josh Allen DE at 2.02. Giants Djordan chose him and was rewarded with 202 points on the year. He would have had the best pick of Round 2 except for my first selection…
2.10 Devin Singletary – Bills (Selected by Carolina Nils)
Nil’s Comments: Surprised he was here. Will gladly take a shot on him this late in the 2nd. Possible I own the future backfield of the Bills with Singletary/Yeldon.
Getting the top running back in Buffalo with the 2.10 was a home run pick. It took Singletary some time to get Gore out of the way, but he persevered and won the starting job. Singletary scored 212 points on the year. With Buffalo improving and nobody else ahead of him, Singletary should get 300 points in 2020. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK OF THE 2ND ROUND.
ROUND 3: There were 3 players that I considered for this round. The first was Daniel Jones who Flod drafted with the 3.08. Anytime you get a year 1 starting QB with 3.08 you have done well. Jones scored 317 points and became the new starting QB of the Giants. Arizona Jai also had a great pick in Diontae Johnson WR Steelers with the 3.15. Diontae scoared 189 points in his first year in Pittsburg. However, for me the best pick in the 3rd round was…
3.06 – Terry McLaurin (Selected by Detroit Nate)
Nate’s Comments: The perfect partner for Haskins, they already having chemistry helps. Could be a stack to be feared for years to come.
Nate how right you were. McLaurin stepped in and became the WR#1 in Washington. He proved to be a really good route runner. He was also very reliable. Having chemistry with Haskins does help assuming that Haskins keeps his starting job. McLaurin scored 216 points and proved your brilliance. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK OF THE 3RD ROUND.
ROUND 4: There is really only one player who stuck out for me in round 4. The round wasn’t looking that great until Nils stepped up with the 4.18 compensatory pick and took…
4.18 – Taylor Rapp – S – Rams (Selected by Carolina Nils)
Nil’s Comments: Love Rapp so much. If he went to a team without legit starters ahead of him he’d be a top 3 safety imo. There is some word he may play the Barron role, lining up as LB in base and then playing SS in Dime with Josh Johnson playing one of the slot roles. If so I probably got a steal this late.
Nil’s your taste in music aside, this was a fantastic pick. Johnson went down and Rapp stepped in and never looked back. He consistently made plays each week and finished with 206 points on the year. Nils was the only one to appear twice on this list. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK OF THE 4TH ROUND.
ROUND 5: This was one of the easiest rounds to select. For the most part the entire NFC shit the bed in round 5 except for this pick…
5.11 – Maxx Crosby – DE – Raiders (Selected by Saints Carlos)
Carlos’s Comments: None. I reached out to Carlos this morning and he said the following: Hola, Chinga Tu La Cara.
Crosby was the 2nd Raider DE drafted and the pasty white boy absolutely killed it. Crosby finished with 219 points and was a force all year. Carlos you nailed it. Nobody expected Crosby to do anything and he did. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK OF THE 5TH ROUND.
ROUND 6: Now if you look at the draft, I’m not putting a punter, kicker, or cornerback on this list. That would be too easy. I’m looking for a short, nerdy, WR who is productive. I had to look no further than…
6.09 – Hunter Renfro – WR Raiders (Selected by Minnesota Wade)
Wade’s Comments: None (You suck for not having comments)
Renfro only scored 127 points but this is the 6th round. He improved throughout the year and because more involved in the offense. He will probaby turn out to be a poor man’s Cole Beasley but he should scored 150 points next year. Not bad for a WR in the 6th round. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK IN THE 6TH ROUND.
ROUND 7 – There were two really good picks in this round. The runner up goes to Saints Carlos who chose Cole Holcomb LB in the 7.11 slot. Holcomb scored 206 points. That would have easily won the 7th round until one of the best picks in the draft…
7.12 – Darius Slayton – WR Giants (Selected by Arizona Jai)
Jai’s Comments: None (The NFC sucks by the way)
Slayton is probably the best value pick of the entire draft. Slayton scored 196 points and is in contention to be the Giants WR1 next year. He was fast, ran good routes, and caught most of his balls. The knock on him was his hands and he pushed that aside and kicked ass. THIS WAS THE BEST PICK OF THE 7TH ROUND.
Those were my best picks by round of the NFC. In the near future, I will also do the worst picks by round. I am frankly sick of the love that I just gave everyone. Next time it will be more fun to unload on all the stupid picks that you made. I hope you enjoy the reading. Thanks.
