IFL Draft History – The 1.14

Without looking at the history, most people would think the results of the 1.14 should be better than the 1.15 and 1.16. If this is the case, you would be completely wrong. I am going to predict that the 1.14 historically has offered the IFL the least amount of talent. You will soon see what I am talking about.

When I went through the draft, I was shocked by how bad the selections were. This year Michael Mayer was drafted by Miami and Tyje Spears was drafted by Philly. Lets hope those player pan out better than this list of 1.14’s. Here is the list from best to worst.

1 and 2 out of 14: Haason Reddick DE – Drafted by Houston and New York Giants in 2017.

Reddick came into the league in 2017 and is 1 of 2 players to average over 200 points for his IFL career. Over that 6 year timespan Reddick has averaged 215.16 points. He started as a rush linebacker and has converted to edge where he has flourished in the Eagles defensive system. Reddick had his best two years recently and should be primed for another good year in 2023. Reddick is the best of the best for the 1.14.

3 out of 14: Quay Walker – LB – Drafted by Las Vegas Raiders in 2022.

No way should a player who has only played one year in the league be considered one of the best draft picks in the 7 year history of the 1.14. However, Walker is the only other player to average over 200 points. In his first year in the IFL, Walker scored 266.85 points and has become a 3 down LB for the Packers. The future looks bright for him so he is near the top of this list.

4 and 5 out of 14: Leighton Vander Esch – LB – Drafted by New England and Seattle in 2018.

You gotta love anyone who wears the old school neck brace. Leighton has been an above average LB for several years. Over his 5 year career in the IFL Leighton has averaged 175.18 points per season. This is probably on the lower side for a starting NFL LB but he has shown longevity for quite a while. While he probably never one anyone a championship, he was a steady contributor during bye weeks. For that reason, Leighton still ends up pretty high on the list of the 1.14.

6 out of 14: Germaine Pratt – LB – Drafted by Cleveland in 2019

Pratt is mediocre. For many of the teams in the IFL, Pratt would not make the starting lineup. Over the last 4 years, Pratt has averaged 178.42 points in the IFL. Most would rather have Logan Wilson. Pratt is best known for his coverage skills so he is often not attacking the line of scrimmage or blitzing the quarterback. Because of this, his tackle numbers are somewhat capped and he is stuck as a low end starter in the IFL. If he was drafted in a different spot other than the 1.14, his position would be much lower.

7 out of 14: Willie Gay – LB – Drafted by New England in 2020.

Willie’s numbers surprise me. Before I really looked at his numbers, I thought he was pretty good. However, between injuries and his suspect play Willie has averaged only 137.85 points over his 3 year IFL career. 137.85 points for a linebacker is not that good. I do think Willie’s numbers will improve this year but he probably deserves to be in the middle of this list.

8 out of 14: Sky Moore – WR – Drafted by Detroit in 2022.

When Moore got drafted by the Chiefs most people thought the “Sky” is the limit. Moore lost his confidence because of some dropped punts and he never found his way into a steady rotation in KC. Moore only scored 68.9 points in his rookie season. I do expect this year to be different. If I redid this list in 2024, I would expect Moore to climb this list by about 3 spots. I am still a believer but I can’t rank him higher until he actually produces.

9 out of 14: Michael Carter – RB – Drafted by Atlanta in 2021

Carter had a great rookie season. Near the end of the year he was catching balls out of backfield like crazy and he was putting up nice numbers. Enter Breece Hall. So long Carter. For his first two years in the league, Carter averaged 187.55 points. Moving forward, I just don’t see Carter being startable in the IFL. At best he is the 3rd down back. I believe Carter will get about 6 touches per week. That is tough spot. You can’t cut him and his trade value won’t be that high. If he moves to a different team his status on this list will improve.

10 out of 14: Mecole Hardman – WR – Drafted in 2019 by Chicago

I understand you can’t teach speed. Apparently, you can’t teach some people how to run routes either. Hardman has been in the league for 4 years and he has averaged 154.2 points per year. Hardman is a gadget player who needs plays designed for him. He was drafted to be the next Tyreek Hill. He is just another track star who runs fast and can’t do that much else. Hardman will never be a good receiver. That is why is down on this list.

11 out of 14: Will Fuller – WR – Drafted by Kansas City in 2016

Will Fuller has been in the league for a long time. Over his 7 year career in the IFL scoring system, he has averaged 112.2 points per year. Fuller was always injured and could never stay on the field. Fuller was the kid on the playground who went deep on every play. He did have one good year with Deshawn Watson but that was it. Coming out of college, I thought Fuller was going to be good. What a mistake.

12 out of 14: Trey Lance – QB – Drafted by Cleveland in 2021.

Lance has been in the league for two years after being drafted so highly by the 49ers. He is a great athlete with no experience running an NFL offense. Over his first two seasons Lance has averaged 55.25 points per season. I am not sure if he can throw accurately. I am not sure if he can process what he is seeing on the field. It is a shame. He will get another chance at some point. It is too bad that Kyle can’t get another chance with his 1.14. Lance is looking like he is going to be a bust.

13 out of 14: CJ Prosise – RB – Drafted by Chicago in 2016.

Prosise did not stay in the league very long. He played 35 games and averaged 22.12 points . He wasn’t fast. He wasn’t big. He just wasn’t a good running back. This was a very bad pick. This is Keshawn Vaughn before there was Keshawn Vaughn.

14 out of 14: Henry Ruggs – WR – Drafted by New Orleans in 2020.

Ouch! This was a bad pick. Ruggs wasn’t good during his rookie season and then he gets convicted to prison. Not Paul Crew would select this guy to play on his team. In his brief stint in the NFL, Henry Ruggs averaged 66 points for his career. This was a completely busted pick!
