2022 IFL Hall of Fame Final Vote

10 Extraordinary Pro Football Hall of Fame Classes - HISTORY

It has been one dumpster fire of a class, but we have finally made it to the final vote just two days prior to the kickoff of the 2022 season.

Next year’s class, and surrounding media, is sure to be better, but for now let’s take care of business!

How does it work?

Below are the finalists and their statistics laid out for everyone to see. After perusing through them to remind yourself of the class click the link to vote.

Any player that receives over 80% of the votes will be inducted to the IFL Hall of Fame. Any player that receives less, will be eligible for votes again next year.

Important:
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO VOTE FOR ANYONE.
THERE IS A “VOTE FOR NO ONE” OPTION.

Here are the 2022 Finalists

(Listed Alphabetically by first name)

Andrew Luck

  • IFL Seasons Played – 2
  • Career Games Played – 29
  • Career Total Points – 959.15
  • Avg Points per Game – 33.05
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 5
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 2
IFL Highlights:

After leading Tampa Luke to an IFL Divisional Championship loss in 2016, Luck did not return until the 2018 season. Upon return, Luck put up a top five season, finishing as QB 4 with an average of 33.873ppg.

Doug Baldwin

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 3
  • Career Games Played – 42
  • Career Total Points – 655.95
  • Avg Points per Game – 15.42
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 24
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 1

IFL Highlights:

Baldwin finished as WR 7 in 2016 with 275.75 pts and was an integral part of New Orleans Carlos’ march to an NFC Championship. In 2017, Baldwin would return to the playoffs with Dallas Brian, only to lose in the first round. During his career Baldwin average 218.7pts per season.

Navorro Bowman

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

SuperBowl Champion – 2017 (Indianapolis Erik)

  • IFL Seasons Played – 1
  • Career Games Played – 14

  • Avg Points per Game – 16.85
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 18
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 0
IFL Highlights:

Bowman missed the 2016 season with an Achilles tendon tear but would return in 2017 only to be released in Week 5 by the NFL 49ers. He was quickly picked up by the Oakland Raiders and went on to score 235.85pts, including 83.85pts (20.69ppg) from Weeks 12-15 (IFL Playoffs). This scoring barrage helped lead Indy Erik and Bowman himself to an IFL Superbowl II victory.

Sebastian Janikowski

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 2
  • Career Games Played – 30
  • Career Total Points – 250.7
  • Avg Points per Game – 8.36
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 11
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 1
IFL Highlights:

Janikowski was a top end kicker, that was finishing his career while the IFL was starting theirs. Playing just two IFL seasons, Janikowski put up a top ten season in 2016 before missing the entire 2017 season with a herniated disk. 2018 would be his last year in the IFL, where he averaged under 8ppg.

Demarco Murray

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 2
  • Career Games Played – 30
  • Career Total Points – 666.5
  • Avg Points per Game – 22.22
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 12
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 1
IFL Highlights:

Jordy Nelson

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 3
  • Career Games Played – 44
  • Career Total Points – 642.45
  • Avg Points per Game – 14.53
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 31
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 1
IFL Highlights:

Nelson got to the IFL at the tail end of a tremendous career. There was still some juice left, as Jordy scored 320.6pts in 2016, good enough for WR 4. While his next two seasons led to a combined 320pts, Jordy’s 14 receiving touchdowns in 2016 held up as the most ever in IFL history until broken by Antonio Brown in 2018 (15).

Julius Peppers

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 3
  • Career Games Played – 45
  • Career Total Points – 410.4
  • Avg Points per Game – 9.12
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 58
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 0

IFL Highlights:

With only one great season in the IFL, Peppers turned in a 189.2pt performance in 2017 as a defensive end. During that season Peppers showcased his pass rush ability, finishing with 11 sacks, good enough for 7th amongst DEs. Peppers was an integral part of Miami Brad’s 2017 season that lost in the AFC Championship game.

Paul Posluszny

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 2
  • Career Games Played – 30
  • Career Total Points – 390.6
  • Avg Points per Game – 13.02
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 50
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 1
IFL Highlights:

While the career stats may look lack luster, Posluszny put up a stellar year in 2016, finishing 3rd among LBs in tackles (94), 11th in total points, and helping Miami Brad to the AFC Championship game.

Telvin Smith

1st Time on IFL HOF Ballot – 2022

  • IFL Seasons Played – 3
  • Career Games Played – 43
  • Career Total Points – 777.8
  • Avg Points per Game – 18.13
  • Career Avg Positional Rank – 14
  • Career Top 10 Finishes – 1
IFL Highlights:

Finishing as LB 18, 13, and 10, Smith was an IFL staple at linebacker with a career season average of 259.3pts. While Telvin’s best statistical season came in his last season, 2016 saw Smith lead both Green Bay Barry and Pittsburgh Spencer to the playoffs. Smith returned Green Bay to the playoffs again in 2017, but was injured for both playoff games.

The IFL Hall of Fame: 2022 Finalists

Your Guide to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Museum

The votes are in and the IFL GM’s have spoken.

For those that forgot, all qualifying candidates for the 2022 HOF (criteria here) were placed into a semi-final pool for the IFL’s Inaugural Hall of Fame class. From these players the top 10 vote getters move on to the Finals.

But first, let’s talk about those that did not make the cut.

Officially Eliminated

There’s only one! Glover Quin is the only player to not receive a single vote, which makes me wonder if people even looked at the stats. Mr. Quin has been eliminated and will never be in the Hall.

Lions' Glover Quin leaves with concussion, start streak in jeopardy

So Sad…

One Massive Snub

There is always going to be those that are left out, but there is one that I will note that surprised me.

Shane Lechler.

Shane Lechler - Wikipedia

WTF are people thinking. Shane only received 6 votes after ending his two year career with an average rank of #3 at his position, a career average of 11.88 pts/game, and a PN 1 finish in 2017.

Punter’s are people too!

All other players that did receive at least one vote will be placed into next year’s semi-finalist class along with the new 1st ballot players.

Here’s the 2022 Finalists

In this vote, all players that receive over 80% of votes submitted will be inducted to the Hall of Fame.

This class isn’t a great one, but the process starting is what matters.

The ifl hall of fame – presented by the hitman

Now that the season is over, and we all wait for trading to open up, what the hell is one in the IFL to do? Yes we could listen to Clown Coverage cover up their Trey Sermon hype, watch guys get rectally wrecked by Vic in IFL Hot Ones, or even wonder if how many fruitful years Craig has before he begins hit early onset dementia.

Well have no fear IFL’ers because the Hitman has got you with a new yearly feature to the IFL off-season, The IFL Hall of Fame!

But what is the IFL Hall of Fame you ask? Well rest your sexy little mind and grab a drink as we go through it…

The HitMan Data Dump Copy

I know what you may be thinking “Why would I read a Hitman article when I could hear him say it in that smooth voice?”

I agree with you completely but some things are better put into article format rather than the best podcast to ever hit the IFL airwaves.

The EG crew put together one of the best statistical drops since Bill James when they came out with the 1st year draft hit rates of the IFL franchises.

This though is not the end of the data. While most of you have been sitting on your asses and just sending suggestions to Nate, the Hitman has been busy at work punching in numbers and coming up with a statistic of his own.

Let’s get into it.

Dynasty Guru and his Hit Rates

The idea for adjusted scoring came while the Hitman was reading an old article that he came across from The Dynasty Guru about how often rookie draft picks hit (article can be found here).

If you are too lazy to read the article here is the long and short of it:

  • Based off how often rookies become fantasy starters
  • Data used from 2012-2017
  • Hit Rate = at least 1 season at a fantasy starter rank
  • This means top 24 RB, top 30 WR, top 12 QB

Dynasty Guru found that the hit rate per round were as follows:

  • 1st Round – 45.8%
  • 2nd Round – 30.6%
  • 3rd Round or After – 9.3%

This was obviously done for leagues that include no IDP players.

The Hitman and his Adjusted Scoring Metric

So looking to expand on this profound work, the Hitman took the guru’s data and expanded it to include IDP players. Since we have a mixed league it is natural to think that a doubling of the round should still rain true.

  • 1st & 2nd Round – 45.8%
  • 3rd & 4th Round – 30.6%
  • 5th Round or After – 9.3%

Taking these hit rates a metric begins to form.

To adjust for actual skill of drafting we must account for how hard it is to find a player of value in each tier of the draft (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3). To do this the Adjusted Scoring metric was created.

Adjusted Scoring is done as follows:

Player points * (1-Round hit rate) = Adjusted Scoring

Example:

Based on 3 year Average Points:

Christian McCaffrey (AFC Pick 1.04)
437.73 pts * (1-.458) = 237.25

Blake Martinez (AFC Pick 5.05)
245.25 pts * (1-.093) = 233.63

Obviously we know that McCaffrey is worth more to a team than Martinez, but we are talking about draft skill here. These two actually rank as the 5th and 6th overall adjusted points respectively in the AFC.

This essentially takes into account that a player of superb caliber in McCaffrey at 1.04 takes the same skill to draft as Blake Martinez at 5.05. I’m sure we can find arguments against this but let’s move on to what all the metric accounts for…

Adjusted Scoring:

PROS of the metric:

  • Total points of a player over their rookie contract
  • The round the player was drafted in
  • Consistent scoring

CONS of the metric:

  • Hurts teams that have not been in the league for 3-4 years
  • Doesn’t account for position depth
  • Players with only 1-2 years of experience may have higher average points if they end up being a flash in the pan

Now that that is out of the way, let’s move on to the data

Historical Adjusted Scoring per Pick per Franchise

To see full size images, right click on it and click “Open in New Tab”

AFC

Average adjusted scoring per pick of the AFC

NFC

Average adjusted scoring per pick of the NFC

As you can see the adjusted scoring per pick represents that average amount of points over a 4 year period that a franchise can expect from each pick that they make.

Teams that miss in the first round get hurt worse than a team that misses in the 7th, and a team that consistently hits with mid-round picks is shown to be more fruitful than one that drafts a mediocre first round talent.

Welcome to the 2021 new york jets!

New York Jets Wallpapers - Top Free New York Jets Backgrounds - WallpaperAccess

Following a 2020 season that began with a 9-0 start, the Jets of New York went an abysmal 0-7 to barely sneak into the playoffs. After a first round playoff victory over Pittsburgh Spencer, Cory and the Jets became the second winningest playoff team in AFC East History.

They met their match in the second round, as they faced the powerhouse Tennessee Titans and dropped the game 391.3-337.35.

After the loss, Cory was quoted saying “We will add some pieces this off-season and continue to move this storied franchise forward.”

Add they did, collecting Myles Garrett, Aaron Donald, Cooper Kupp, Justin Fields, Carson Wentz, Odell Beckham Jr., Marcus Maye, Nelson Agholor, and getting back a hopefully healthy CJ Mosley.

But the main story is that the hometown hero is back in town, ready to lead the Jets to the promised land.

Yes, that’s right, Baker Mayfield is back and ready to stick a flag in the asses of the AFC East.

Feast your eyes on the new and improved 2021 New York Jets!

The HitMan Data Dump – 2021 update

I know what you may be thinking “Why would I read a Hitman article when I could hear him say it in that smooth voice?”

I agree with you completely but some things are better put into article format rather than the best podcast to ever hit the IFL airwaves.

Last year the EG crew tossed out a phenomenal data drop about the previous draft and then the Hitman himself threw out one as well.

Well 2020 was not the end!

Let’s review how it works for those that don’t remember or are new…

As you can see the adjusted scoring per pick represents that average amount of points over a 4 year period that a franchise can expect from each pick that they make.

Teams that miss in the first round get hurt worse than a team that misses in the 7th, and a team that consistently hits with mid-round picks is shown to be more fruitful than one that drafts a mediocre first round talent.

The HitMan Data Dump
